Bowhunting Prep in Sarasota, FL – Turn Your Setup into a System
Bowhunting is more than owning a bow and broadheads. It’s about having a complete system that works when your heart rate is high, the shot angle is awkward, and the animal will not give you a second chance.
At Sarasota Archery Academy, our Bowhunting Prep program is where we take your equipment, your shot process, and your hunting scenarios and put them together on the range. We work with all major brands and see a large number of Elite hunting bows such as the Elite Varos, Elite Basin, and Elite Carbon Axys.
If you’re running an Elite bow or thinking about one, you can also visit our Elite Archery dealer hub to see how we fit and tune Elite bows for Florida bowhunters.
What Our Bowhunting Prep Session Covers
Bowhunting Prep is part coaching, part equipment validation, and part dry run for the season. Depending on your needs, a typical session may include:
- Checking broadhead and field point impact at realistic hunting distances.
- Practicing shots from tree stands, saddles, and blinds on our range.
- Working through awkward body positions you’re likely to see in the field.
- Evaluating your shot process under pressure with a hunting mindset.
- Dialing in pin gaps or sight tapes for your actual arrow speeds.
We can do this work with any reliable hunting bow. If you’re shooting an Elite, we’ll connect your session back to how your bow was fit and tuned. If you want to understand our Elite process more deeply, you can read our Elite Archery Bow Fitting & Tuning in Florida guide.
Gear Check: Bows, Arrows, and Broadheads
Before we start shooting “hunting scenarios,” we make sure your gear is ready:
- Bow inspection – We check string and cable condition, timing, rest function, and general safety on all brands, including Elite setups like the Varos, Basin, and Carbon Axys.
- Arrow and broadhead assessment – We look at arrow spine, weight, and broadhead type to make sure they match your draw weight and your hunts.
- Baseline grouping – We start at realistic, close distances and build out once we see consistent impact.
If we find issues with your tune or arrow setup, we may recommend Bow Tuning or Custom Arrows before we push distances.
Real Hunting Scenarios on the Range
Bowhunting Prep is where we stop shooting only from “perfect form” positions. Instead, we simulate the shots you’ll see in the field:
- Tree stand and saddle shots at downward angles.
- Limited-window shots like you’d see in blinds and thick cover.
- Kneeling, seated, or twisted-body shots while maintaining safe form.
- Controlled follow-up shots and realistic “first shot of the day” drills.
If your bow is an Elite Carbon Axys, Varos, Basin, or another platform, we’ll show you how to leverage its feel and balance in these positions instead of fighting it.
Pin Gaps, Sight Tapes, and Distance Confidence
Many bowhunters lose animals not because their equipment was bad, but because they weren’t fully confident at the distance. During Bowhunting Prep, we:
- Confirm your pin gaps or sight wheel marks.
- Help you understand where your point of impact drifts under stress.
- Build a realistic distance limit based on your actual groups, not wishful thinking.
For hunters running slider sights or needing precise marks, we often pair Bowhunting Prep with Custom Sight Tapes, especially on Elite setups where we’re already tracking arrow speed and flight.
Bowhunting Prep with Elite Bows
We work with all major hunting bow brands, but many of our bowhunters shoot Elite bows like the Varos, Basin, and Carbon Axys. When you bring an Elite bow into Bowhunting Prep, we:
- Make sure your bow’s fit and tune align with our Elite fitting & tuning process .
- Confirm that your broadheads and field points agree at real hunting distances.
- Talk through how your specific Elite model behaves at anchor and at the shot in different hunting positions.
If you’re still choosing your bow and think an Elite might be the right fit, you can explore our Elite Archery dealer hub and model pages for the Varos, Basin, and Carbon Axys.
Who Bowhunting Prep Is For
Bowhunting Prep works for a wide range of hunters:
- New bowhunters making sure their first season is as solid as possible.
- Experienced hunters switching bows, arrows, or broadheads.
- Elite shooters who want their tournament skills to carry into the woods.
- Hunters traveling out of state who want a pre-trip confidence check.
If you’re still working on basic form, we may recommend starting with Group Training or private coaching, then moving into Bowhunting Prep once your fundamentals are solid.
Bowhunting Prep – FAQs
Do I need an Elite bow for Bowhunting Prep?
No. We work with all major brands. Many hunters in our program shoot Elite bows like the Varos, Basin, and Carbon Axys, but Bowhunting Prep is about your entire system, not a specific logo.
Should I book Bow Tuning before Bowhunting Prep?
If you haven’t had your bow tuned in a while, booking Bow Tuning first is a good idea. We can also combine tuning and Bowhunting Prep into one plan so you leave with a complete hunting system.
Can you help me choose a bow before Bowhunting Prep?
Yes. If you’re still deciding between different bows or brands, including Elite, start with a Bow & Equipment Consultation. We’ll help you choose the right bow and then plug it into Bowhunting Prep.
How often should I do Bowhunting Prep?
Many hunters schedule a focused Bowhunting Prep session before their main season or a big trip, then shorter check-ins if they change broadheads, arrows, or setups.
