Bow Tuning in Sarasota, FL – Make Your Bow Shoot the Way It Should

A bow that “kind of” shoots is not the same as a bow that’s truly tuned. At Sarasota Archery Academy, our Bow Tuning service is where we make sure your bow, arrows, and shot execution are working together—not fighting each other.

We tune all major brands and see a large number of Elite bows in our shop, from target rigs like the Elite Victra and Elite Emerse to hunting bows like the Varos, Basin, and Carbon Axys.

What Our Bow Tuning Service Includes

Bow Tuning is more than twisting a cable or moving a rest a few clicks. A typical tuning session can include:

  • Cam timing and synchronization checks.
  • Center-shot and rest alignment setup.
  • Paper tuning and walk-back tuning as appropriate.
  • D-loop and peep height adjustments.
  • Arrow selection and spine checks.
  • Broadhead vs. field point verification for bowhunters.

Our goal is to give you a bow that is easy to aim and forgiving to shoot, whether you’re on the line or in the woods.

Bow Tuning for Elite Bows

Elite bows are designed to be tuning-friendly, with cam systems and technologies that reward good setup work. We regularly tune:

  • Elite Victra and other target-focused platforms.
  • Elite Emerse builds for growing youth archers.
  • Elite Varos, Basin, and Carbon Axys hunting setups.

When we tune an Elite bow, we look at:

  • Whether the bow’s fit matches our Elite fitting & tuning process .
  • How the bow groups at realistic distances, not just at 10 yards.
  • How your arrow and broadhead choices match your draw length and draw weight.

If you’re considering buying an Elite bow or upgrading your current one, you can explore our Elite Archery dealer hub for more details about our Elite builds.

Our Step-by-Step Bow Tuning Process

Every bow is different, but our process follows a clear flow:

  1. Step 1 – Intake & Goal Setting
We ask whether your primary focus is target, 3D, or hunting, and what problems you’re seeing: left/right misses, inconsistent groups, noise, etc.
  2. Step 2 – Safety & Baseline Checks
We inspect strings, cables, limbs, cams, and hardware to make sure the bow is safe to tune. We also check current draw length, draw weight, and peep location.
  3. Step 3 – Mechanical Tuning
We work through cam timing, rest position, center shot, and other mechanical basics, using manufacturer systems and best practices.
  4. Step 4 – Paper / Group Tuning
We use paper tuning and downrange group tuning to chase clean arrow flight and forgiving impact patterns.
  5. Step 5 – Broadhead Verification (for Bowhunters)
For hunting setups, we confirm that field points and broadheads are hitting where they should at your real hunting distances.
  6. Step 6 – Follow-Up Plan
We talk about how often to re-check your tune, especially in Florida’s heat and humidity, and how to pair tuning with coaching or Bowhunting Prep.

When You Should Book Bow Tuning

You do not need to wait until something is “wrong” to get your bow tuned. We recommend booking Bow Tuning when:

  • You’ve just bought a new bow (Elite or any brand) and want it built correctly.
  • It’s been a full season or more since your last tune.
  • You’ve changed strings, arrows, or broadheads.
  • You’re seeing unexplained left/right or high/low misses.
  • You’re about to start a new league, event season, or hunting season.

If you’re also thinking about new equipment, a Bow & Equipment Consultation can help you decide whether to tune what you have or plan a new build.

Bow Tuning for Target, 3D, and Hunting

We tune bows for target archers, 3D shooters, and bowhunters. The principles are similar, but the goals are different:

  • Target & 3D – Tight, repeatable groups over many arrows, with a focus on forgiveness and aiming stability. Perfect for bows like the Elite Victra and other target rigs.
  • Hunting – One-shot confidence, broadhead agreement, and performance under awkward positions. Ideal for bows like the Elite Varos, Basin, and Carbon Axys.

We can also connect tuned bows to Foundation, Advanced Coaching, and Bowhunting Prep so your form and your equipment are improving together.

Bow Tuning – FAQs

Do you only tune Elite bows?

No. We tune all major brands. We do see a large number of Elite bows (Victra, Emerse, Varos, Basin, Carbon Axys) because we are an Elite Archery dealer, but Bow Tuning is for every archer.

How long does a tuning session take?

It depends on the bow’s condition and your goals. Some setups come together quickly; others require more time, especially if we’re starting with worn strings or mismatched arrows. We’ll set expectations when you book.

Can you tune a bow I bought somewhere else?

Yes. We’re happy to tune bows purchased elsewhere, including Elite bows and other brands. If your bow needs new strings or components, we’ll discuss that before doing the work.

Should I bring my arrows and broadheads?

Absolutely. For meaningful tuning, we need to see what you’re actually shooting. For hunting setups, bring your broadheads as well as your field points.

How often should I have my bow tuned?

At least once a year for active shooters, and before any major event or hunting season. Florida’s climate is hard on strings and timing, so periodic checkups are important.
